Only Children Remix of Hey Champ's Cold Dust Girl

OK, so basically this blog has been in serious defunkt-ion for the past couple of months. But I have a good reason! I've been working on a new project called Only Children. It's sort of an artist, DJ, production, and design collective comprised of my friends Chris Baronner (Bald E. / Life During Wartime), Dino Balocchi (Dinoscopy), Mcrae Reed (grayarea), and me. We just finished our first project, a remix of Hey Champ's Cold Dust Girl. Stream the track below and/or click the link to download. Stay tuned, much more to come! Visit us on our Sound Cloud page. Dino gets busy

Hey y'all. My friend Dino just called me out for not updating this thing more often. And he's right! I had no idea how time-consuming a blog would be. Or rather, how time-consuming a blog COULD be if I actually was taking the time.

We were talking about how many great songs there are out there with lame or totally self-indulgent sections that ruin them. What if we just re-cut them to reflect our modern, clearly superior aesthetic? Instead of just talking about it, which is what I like to do, he went off and did it, and came up with this cool edit of the Dusty Springfield cover of the Classics IV 60's gem Spooky. I think he's secretly trying to take over my blog, which stands to reason because of the insane traffic on this fucker. Two posts now from old Dino.

Guest Mixtape: Dinoscopy's "Winter Can't Last Forever"

Hey everyone,

Ahhh Chicago. About this time every year I start ruminating once again over how this god forsaken place was ever settled more than one winter back in the early 19th century. I mean, THINK how outrageous it was then, if it's this bad now. How did they do it with nothing but wood stoves and buffalo skins for warmth? And did they once stop to think that by their pitiable suffering and soldiering through they were consigning generations of future Chicagoans to a similarly horrible fate?

Fortunately for us, we have computers. Because of computers, my friend Dino just released a mixtape hopefully titled "Winter Can't Last Forever." Because of computers, most of the music on said mixtape was made possible, and because of computers said mixtape is now available to you--for FREE! And even though today's weather might serve to refute the proposition that winter is ending anytime soon, I am nevertheless guest-posting his mix cause it's KICK ass. Even if spring never comes and winter never, ever ends--this mix will help you through.

Mixtape #3: Party like it's 1981 (sort of)

Hey everyone. This latest mix is a throwback of sorts. The idea was to do a mix of a house party circa 1981 or so, but its finished form migrated from that idea a bit. I couldn't resist the temptation to beef up the mix with a couple more contemporary tracks. Think of it as if two dj's, one who had just voted for Jimmy Carter and was pissed and one who had just voted for Obama and was psyched, were both spinning in some alternative universe where time was irrelevent, and there was a banging house party (???)... or just check it out and don't worry about it. I'm gonna do more in this vein--there's so much great music from this era. Let me know what you think! 256kbps, 85 MB.

Mister Wolf Mixtape #1

So I can feel through cyberspace all of you dying to know why my first posted mix below was titled Mixtape #2. It's because there is an earlier mix! Imagine that. Mister Wolf Mixtape #1 might unofficially be called "The Hits" because a lot of the tracks are or were, in fact, hits. Some of them, however, were not hits by any stretch of the imagination, but should have been in my opinion, which is why "The Hits" is in quotation marks. Further, some of the actual hits are songs I kinda hate (or secretly like), but I made sure to oddly juxtapose them for maximum ironic effect. This one was really an experiment to see how many ridiculously different genres I could get into an hour's worth of music. Enjoy and let me know what you think. 256 kbps 106 MB.

Mister Wolf's Mixtape #2

Yes, this is the inaugural post of Mister Wolf's Mixtape Mania. The idea here is to post digital versions of old-school mixtapes--stuff I like or find interesting or what I'm spinning @ any given time. Also, mash-ups, remixes, and rare vinyl I've come across. Plus it's a grand opportunity to become a blogger--that's right folks, I blog now, I'm a BLOGGER! I'm already having the time of my life!

This first mix is all about the dance party. In fact, its unofficial title is Mister Wolf Mixtape #2 Dance Party USA. Awesome new and old disco, electro, and deep house tracks for your dancing pleasure. Track listing below. 256 kbps, about 85 MB. Let me know what you think!
